Eksperto, Naniniwalang Herd Immunity ang Susi Para Labanan ang Pagtaas ng COVID-19 Cases sa Pinas

Amid our fight against the coronavirus pandemic, many people are placing their hopes on a vaccine. Several developers are already on the clinical trials, and many promising vaccines were found to be effective against COVID-19. But vaccine alone will not help curb the coronavirus cases in the Philippines, which is why some experts are eyeing herd immunity.

Some health experts in the Philippines claimed that herd immunity can help fight the virus. This will also solve the problems that may arise during the distribution of the vaccine.

Since it’s impossible to vaccinate all of the population due to limited supplies, not all Filipinos are guaranteed to receive the vaccine.

According to Dr. Rontgene Solante, an infectious disease specialist, they are eyeing to vaccinate at least 60 to 70% of the population to build herd immunity.

“More or less, with that 60 million, you’ll be able to achieve na more than 50% ng population natin pag nabakunahan na yan, that will create an immunity even to those na hindi nakatanggap pa ng vaccine. Dahil majority na ng population ay nagdedevelop ng antibodies.”

On the other hand, experts at the World Health Organization claimed that herd immunity might not be the most viable solution against COVID-19.

Herd immunity works by strengthening majority of the population against a certain virus or disease. The immuned individuals act as barrier or protection for the minority with weaker immune system.

While herd immunity sounds feasible at first, it’s not easy to execute. According to experts, in order to make this work, at least 70% of the population needs to be vaccinated against COVID-19. In the Philippines, that equates to more than 77 million of the population. Even if the majority are vaccinated, it will take time.

Authorities are hopeful that they will finally shed light on what truly happened to Christine Angelica Dacera. On January 1, the lifeless body of the 23-year-old flight attendant was found in a bathtub in a Makati hotel room. Right from the start, authorities and Dacera’s family suspected foul play. During the time of her passing, Dacera celebrated New Year’s eve with her friends at City Garden Grand Hotel.

Instead of swabbing her body for evidence, the first medical coroner immediately embalmed Dacera’s body, therefore destroying possible evidence. On the day of her burial on January 10, the National Bureau of Investigation has once again swabbed Dacera’s body, hopeful to find any shred of evidence that may point out to her true cause of death.

In an interview, Atty. Ferdinand Lavin, Deputy Director of National Bureau of Investigation, claimed that finding samples on Dacera’s body was impressive, given the fact that she was already embalmed twice.

“There was contamination, considering the embalming procedures done on her. Despite all the odds, may mga encouraging leads kami, 80%. Makakatulong ito sa investigation. Rest assured the public that we have very encouraging leads, evidence. Believe me, makikita dito kung may lapses doon sa una,” says Lavin.

In addition to that, Lavin also claimed that there’s a big possibility that crime was involved. They were not ruling out foul play, especially since a witness told in an affidavit that some persons on Room 2207, which is adjacent to Dacera’s room, brought ‘powder drugs.’

Law enforcement authorities are now hunting a certain Mark Anthony Rosales, who was allegedly one of the guests in Room 2207. Hours before she passed away, Dacera told one of her friends that Mark had slipped something into her drink, and after that she felt ill.

Mga Suspek sa Pagpanaw ni Christine Dacera, Humingi ng Tulong Pinansyal sa Publiko

On January 10, flight attendant Christine Angelica Dacera, who died on a hotel room in Makati City, has finally been laid to rest. However, the battle is still not over for Dacera’s family and friends. Suspects who were accused of rape in Dacera’s case are now facing a grave problem. Despite proclaiming their innocence, they still need to represent themselves in court.

Proving your innocence is not only exhausting, but it is also financially-taxing. The accused, no matter how much they protest their innocence, still needs to attend court hearings and prove their innocence at the court of law.

But it’s not easy, since getting a competent lawyer to defend you is expensive. In addition to that, you also have to pay costly legal fees.

This is the reason why Rommel Galido, JP dela Serna, Clark Rapinan, and Valentine Rosales have launched ‘Fund For Truth.’ They were among the eleven people who were accused of sexually assaulting Dacera, and indirectly causing her death. This fundraising aims to raise legal fees for their cause.

The pandemic has also taken its toll on the accused. Galido claimed that he lost his apartment since they were falsely accused. In addition to that, he’s also the sole provider for his family back in the province.

“I lost my apartment due to this incident and the pandemic. It’s even harder for me because I still need to support my family back in the province. I can’t go back to work at this moment that’s why I am asking for support, not only for me but also to my fellow victims. We are innocent. We stand for the truth,” says Galido.

Rosales, on the other hand, also denounced the bounty that was placed on their head by some high-ranking politicians. According to Rosales, any contribution to help their cause will be greatly appreciated.

“It’s hard to step out of the house knowing that a bounty has been placed on our lives in exchange for our freedom when we didn’t even commit any crime. Any financial assistance would be appreciated but not required as long as it comes from the heart. Thank you.”
